Introduction Popperian Scientific Method The main contribution of this paper is a generic game, called the Scientific Community Game (SCG), for the Popperian Scientific Method [14]. Popper, one of the most influential philosophers of science of the previous century, promoted in “Conjectures and Refutations” the idea that each claim should have a description how to refute the claim. SCG is a game designed to encourage constructively-solvable disputes about a predefined set of claims. The reason we want to encourage those constructively-solvable disputes is that they help advance and focus the scientific discourse and learning.

Perform Three Data Mining Tasks with Crowdsourcing Process

For data mining studies, because of the complexity of doing feature selection process in tasks by hand, we need to send some of labeling to the workers with crowdsourcing activities. The process of outsourcing data mining tasks to users is often handled by software systems without enough knowledge of the age or geography of the users' residence. Uncertainty about the performance of virtual user...

From scientific papers to the scientific ontology: dynamical clustering of heterogeneous graphs and ontology crowdsourcing

The goal of the Sciencewise.info project is the organization of knowledge in the domain of physics. It is an interacting semantic environment providing the functionalities of semantic annotation and bookmarking and dynamical creation of a physics ontology that is continuously developed and updated by the experts as part of their daily activities, crowdsourcing rather than harvesting of knowledg...

Crowdsourcing Formal Decision Making Using Generalized Semantic Games

We are after a Wikipedia for formal scientific knowledge; a crowdsourcing system where formal science claims are expressed as interpreted logical statements (a.k.a. claims). The crowd takes positions on claims and objectively argues these positions through Semantic Games (SGs). SGs are zero-sum, two-person games where players take two contradictory positions on claims and exchange examples and ...

Production and use of documentation in scientific software development

Software is becoming ubiquitous in science. The success of the application of scientific software depends on effective communication about what the software does and how it operates. Documentation captures the communication about the software. For that reason, practices around scientific software documentation need to be better understood. This thesis presents four qualitative empirical studies...

Crowdsourcing Education: A Collaborative Knowledge Management Approach

Introduction Web 2.0 and 3.0 technologies are transforming the landscape of learning. These technologies enable learners and pedagogues to co-produce learning environments that adapt to the competencies and motivations of each participant. Building these systems online, in the open, we can make use of both high-intensity, high-cost contributions, and a long tail of smaller and less intensive co...
